Pensacola – Things to do for Teams

A visit to sunny Pensacola is definitely a welcomed trip. One that your team will be looking forward to. Being the westernmost city in the Florida Panhandle and a seaport on Pensacola Bay, Pensacola sees a lot of visitors every year coming to play in tournaments at Ashton Brosnaham Soccer Complex, Southwest Escambia Sports Complex, or another venue.

The beaches alone adjacent to the Gulf of Mexico are worth a trip. Do your best to schedule some time to relax and lounge on one of Pensacola’s beaches. Pensacola is also home to the U.S. Naval Air Station Pensacola and the National Naval Aviation Museum.

Nicknamed “The City of Five Flags” because of the five governments that controlled the territory throughout its existence, Spain, France, Great Britain, the Confederate States of America, and the United States, Pensacola has a rich history behind it. The area is also known as the Emerald Coast due to the white sand on the Panhandle beaches. If your team is going there to play then here are some things to see while you are in town.

This 290-acre island is home to a variety of shorebirds and other animals, but the crown jewel are the white, sandy beaches that are open to the public. Uncle Sandy’s Macaw Bird Park

PensacolaUncle Sandy is a bird fanatic. His love for birds, specifically macaws, knows no bounds. Uncle Sandy comes from an island off the coast of Honduras where macaws are found all over, perched in trees and flying around. Once Uncle Sandy moved away from his home and retired, he wanted to give back to the birds he loves so much.

He did this by building a free-flight open aviary that allows macaws to fly around and live their lives in a safe environment, Uncle Sandy’s Macaw Bird Park. As the aviary grew, more macaws kept showing up and Uncle Sandy, being the kindhearted man that he is, couldn’t turn them away.

Today, Uncle Sandy jumps at the chance to share his love for macaws with the public and urges people to come to his aviary. He continues to care for his macaws and provides a great habitat for them to live their lives. He has two goals for his birds: care for them and provide them a safe place to stay, and search for permanent homes where these macaws can live out the rest of their days happy and healthy. 9513 N Palafox St, Pensacola, FL 32534
