Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center – Food Trucks

A great thing about visiting big cities is that you’re able to try full-bodied cuisine at food trucks. Some food trucks will really blow you away with their high quality, creativity, and knockout taste. Texas doesn’t do anything small, and when it comes to their food trucks, they go big with full flavor and perfect presentation even on the go.

When you visit the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, you’ll be in the heart of Downtown Dallas. This fast-paced city knows that people are always on the move and so eateries have adapted with food trucks springing up throughout the area. Whether you’re spending a day out in Downtown Dallas sightseeing or taking a break during a convention at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, look for some of these food trucks that locals and visitors alike have been raving about.

Soulgood

You won’t have to venture far from the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center to find this food truck because Soulgood frequents areas close to the venue. It’ll be hard to miss this brightly colored food truck. And you won’t want to miss this food truck either because the Dallas Observer deemed Soulgood as the best food truck in Dallas. What makes this nomination so noteworthy is that Soulgood serves only healthy, farm-to-fork vegetarian and vegan dishes and still beat all other food trucks. So even if you’re a carnivore, give Soulgood a try!

The owner and chef, Cynthia Nevels, believes that what makes her food truck so special is that she learned to create dishes where even carnivores can’t tell that the meat is missing. Yes, they’re that good! Every meal, whether it’s a taco, burrito, burger, or tamale, is made with plant-based protein.

Maybe you want to venture out of your carnivore comfort zone and try a Not Dog, which is made with SmartLife soy dogs or Beyond Meat sausages. No matter what you order, feel good knowing that five percent of your purchase is going toward the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in honor of Nevels’s late son, Tyler.

Easy Slider

Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center

Many restaurants realized that patrons want to take advantage of on-the-go options, so they extended their business to food trucks. Easy Slider did exactly that and created a gourmet slider truck. You’ll find the restaurant just over a mile from the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center. You can check their website for the food truck location.

The same care and passion used to make the food in their restaurant are used to craft these burgers on the truck. There are five original burgers to choose from. Other than a classic burger and a vegetarian option with a portobello mushroom, there’s the Sweet & Lowdown, which is topped with strawberry jam; the Nutty Pig, which has a smooth peanut butter sauce; and the Roadside, which has barbecue sauce.

Cajun Tailgators

Just like Easy Slider, Cajun Tailgators turned their attention to the food truck industry. The restaurant location is an 11-minute walk from the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center. The Cajun Tailgators food truck moves around to serve the Dallas community.

The menu changes daily, but there are some customer favorites that you may see if you find this food truck. One of the favorites is the crawfish pistolette, which is a fried French roll with a cheesy crawfish etouffee filling. Other dishes you might come are a Cajun barbecue smoked pork sandwich, jambalaya, beignets, and sausage gumbo.

Bobaddiction

If you’re a fan of bubble tea, you’ll want to check out the food truck Bobaddiction because they specialize in the sweet, trendy drink. They have a storefront, but you can also find their food truck roaming around the Dallas and Fort Worth area. Locations frequented by Bobaddiction that are close to the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center are Deep Ellum and the Dallas Arts District.

Other than a few gourmet and mochi ice creams and some snacks, this truck is all about bubble tea. The menu is separated into milk-based drinks and fruit-based drinks, each section offering six different flavors. In the milk-based menu, you’ll find Thai tea, almond milk tea, and Vietnamese coffee. Fruit tea drinks include mango green tea, strawberry black tea, and passion fruit green tea. All of their drinks use fresh fruits and do not contain high fructose corn syrup.

Bobaddiction also allows patrons to sample flavors for free. That way you won’t have to pick a flavor blindly because you can try a couple of them before making your final decision.

Azucar

Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center

Azucar has been featured in multiple publications about great food trucks, so don’t miss the chance to have excellent Latin cuisine. The Dallas Observer placed Azucar in its top 10 list of most underrated tacos. Thrillist mentions this food truck in its article “The Best Under-the-Radar Tacos Around Dallas.” Finally, Mobile Cuisine recognized Azucar in its list of best rookie food trucks in Dallas.

With all the hype, Azucar is clearly worth the 15-minute drive from the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center to its frequented location on Ambassador Row. You might also find Azucar in the Truck Yard or the Dallas Farmers Market.

With traditional spices and preparation, Azucar’s Latin cuisine packs a flavorful punch. For tacos, you won’t find your chicken, brisket, or pork on a flat flour tortilla. Instead, fluffy fry bread holds the taco. The Cuban quesadilla with roasted pork, ham, pickles, mustard, and melted cheese will send your taste buds to foodie heaven. Or perhaps you’re more of a burrito person. They have burritos too, and the burrito bowl is a must-try. No matter what dish you pick, you’re bound to leave with a very satisfied stomach.

Egg Stand

Egg Stand is serving up gourmet egg sandwiches with ingredients that come from local farms. These aren’t skimpy little breakfast sandwiches either. These are heftily portioned sandwiches that are guaranteed to fill you up.

A sandwich that will no doubt fulfill your hunger is Da Boss. It has Angus beef, Gouda mac and cheese, bacon, hash browns, eggs, crispy onions, and chipotle ketchup. If you’re looking for something a bit lighter, go with The Wanted, which is more of a typical breakfast sandwich with two eggs, bacon, cheese, and chipotle ketchup.

If you’re near the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, it will be easy to find Egg Stand and grab one of these sandwiches. This food truck can often be found near Klyde Warren Park, which is only a mile from the convention center.
