It’s tough to keep up with the NHL playoffs. With at least one series playing every night, very few can find time to watch all the games. If you’re looking for an update on every series, you’ve found it.

Washington Capitals vs. Pittsburgh Penguins – Caps win 4-2

The reigning Stanley Cup champs will not be making another run. The Washington Capitals knocked off what many agree to be the best team in hockey this year. This is a big deal for the Caps. It’s the first time they’re returning to the Eastern Conference Finals since the 1997-98 season. This was an exciting series. Three of the six games were decided by a single goal, including the overtime thriller in game 6 where the Caps won 2-1. Sidney Crosby and company may not be lighting up the rink anymore in the NHL playoffs, but Alexander Ovechkin and the rest of the Capitals sure will be. Washington goalie, Braden Holtby remained consistent throughout the series, not allowing more than three goals in a game. That performance was good enough. The Capitals scored four or more goals in three of the six games. Game 1 of the Capitals Lightning series has not been scheduled yet.

Tampa Bay Lightning vs. Boston Bruins – Lightning win 4-1

The Tampa Bay Lightning have been white hot all season. They were the number one seed from the Eastern Conference. Going into the series against the Bruins, the Lightning knew what they had to do: don’t let Boston go on the power play. The Bruins ranked fourth in the league. They’ve been a deadly team on the power play for years now. The Lightning’s penalty kill ranks 27th. That’s a pretty alarming disparity. But nonetheless, the Lightning’s blitzing speed on the ice helped them pull out the series victory. After getting embarrassed in game 1 at home in a 6-2 blowout, Tampa Bay came back with a vengeance winning the next four games. Brad Marchand licked his last player in the 2018 playoffs. Game 1 versus the Washington Capitals has not been scheduled.

Vegas Golden Knights vs. San Jose Sharks – Golden Knights win 4-2

Fans of the Golden Knights have waited too long for this kind of success. In all seriousness, it’s amazing what the Golden Knights are doing. Playing their inaugural season after entering the NHL as an expansion team, Vegas finds itself in the Western Conference Finals. The Golden Knights’ are on a tear. Between the performances of Marc-Andre Fleury, Jonathan Marchessault, William Karlsson, and Reilly Smith, Vegas took it to the Sharks in every game (aside from the game 4 loss to San Jose where Vegas lost 4-0). San Jose had some bad luck though in the NHL playoffs. The Sharks couldn’t count on Evander Kane for every game due to a suspension. Joonas Donskoi had an injury that kept him out at times. Even when these players were on the ice, they had lackluster performances. The Las Vegas magic lives on for the Golden Knights. Now they wait for the victor of the Nashville Winnipeg series.

Winnipeg Jets vs. Nashville Predators – Series tied at 3-3

Number one and two seed matchups are always exhilarating to watch, this one especially. What more can a fan of the NHL playoffs ask for? Some games are blowouts, some are decided by one goal, it’s been an up and down series for Winnipeg and Nashville. The Predators’ roster depth has really helped them this series. But the Winnipeg stars are healthy and fired up. Paul Stastny, Mark Scheifele, and Blake Wheeler aren’t easy to stop. If there is a team to do it in the West, it’s Nashville. P.K. Subban, Mattias Ekholm, and other defensemen need to have solid performances for the final game of the series. Game 7 is set for Thursday, 5/10, at 8pm ET on NBC Sports Network.
