Skip the takeout and cook up your own Chinese meal for the team. This simple spicy beef and broccoli chow mein recipe is packed with protein and veggies. It’s the perfect meal for a team full of hungry athletes.

*Ingredient amounts are set for 15 people. Add or subtract based on how many people you’re serving.

 

Ingredients

  • 3-3/4 pounds thin-cut flat iron steaks
  • 7-1/2 cups broccoli florets
  • 2-3/4 pounds dried chow mein noodles
  • 1/3 cup & 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 white onions, chopped
  • 30 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2-1/2 tbsp freshly ground black pepper
  • 1-3/4 cups & 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 3/4 cup & 3 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 3/4 & 3 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1/3 cup & 2 tbsp red wine vinegar
  • 1/3 cup & 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1/3 cup & 2 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1/3 cup & 2 tbsp honey
  • 1/4 cup & 1 tbsp chile sauce

 

Directions

Prep time: 10 minutes Cook time: 10 minutes

  1. Whisk soy sauce, hoisin sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, red wine vinegar, garlic powder, chile sauce, honey, and black pepper together in a bowl until marinade is smooth.
  2. Brush marinade on steak strips and broccoli. Remember to set some aside for the chow mein noodles.
  3. Refrigerate meat and broccoli for at least four hours.
  4. Boil large pot of lightly salted water.
  5. Cook chow mein noodles in boiling water while stirring occasionally until al dente. Then, drain pot.
  6. Heat oil in wok or deep-bowled skillet over medium heat.
  7. Cook and stir onions for three minutes.
  8. Add garlic and beef-broccoli mix.
  9. Cook and stir until beef is cooked through.
  10. Add noodles and extra marinade to mixture.
  11. Toss ingredients in sauce and cook until fully heated through.
