Things to Do

Lake Jesup Wilderness Area and Black Hammock Adventures

Lake Jesup is one of the largest lakes in Central Florida, one of many that make up the St. Johns River. The lake is home to a wide variety of wildlife and is considered to support one of the state’s densest population of alligators. Osprey and bald eagles also call Lake Jesup home. The 490-acre Lake Jesup Wilderness Area features approximately three miles of trail where you and your team might catch a glimpse of alligators, box turtles, and wading birds.

For an even better chance at getting to see exotic Floridian wildlife in their natural habitat, embark on an airboat tour of Lake Jesup with Black Hammock Adventures. Each of their four state-of-the-art airboats are piloted by U.S. Coast Guard-licensed captains who are expertly trained in locating alligators, nesting locations, and all of the other amazing sights that can be found on Lake Jesup. With well over 10,000 alligators, you’re sure to see at least one!

The wild fun doesn’t have to end once your airboat ride is over however. Afterwards, you and your team can grab a bite to eat at the award-winning Black Hammock Restaurant where you’ll receive a 10-percent discount upon presentation of your airboat ride ticket stub; visit alligators of varying sizes and macaws that are as talkative as they are colorful at their wildlife exhibit; and find the perfect souvenirs to commemorate your adventure in the gift shop.
