Things to Do

National Underground Railroad Freedom Center

At one point in time, Cincinnati was a huge destination for runaway slaves that escaped from the South in search for better lives. The Ohio River was a popular passageway of escape for slaves and used by abolitionists to aid in the transporting of runaways.

The history of Cincinnati as a harbor for slaves and the Underground Railroad operations in the city are immortalized in the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. A total of eight permanent exhibits and some temporary featured displays will enthrall your team when they visit. Find out the experiences of three centuries worth of slaves. Bringing the events of the past to life, you can watch museum staff perform a quick play where they showcase the bravery and struggles of runaway slaves. Take a step into an actual slave pen where captives were held before they were sold to other slaveholders. One of the exhibits focuses on the problem of slavery in the current day and strives to educate museum-goers on the horrors of oppression that still exist.
