Spokane – Things to do with your Team

Spokane is a city in eastern Washington State that actually happens to be closer to Idaho than it is to the Pacific coast. In general, those who live in the Northwest are big on the outdoors and are extremely proud of their pristine natural parks. So be sure to take some time from your busy schedule to get outside and revel in some of these scenic parks while you enjoy hiking, rafting, or other fun outdoor activities. Spokane also has a historic downtown where more than half of the buildings there are featured on the Historic Register, including the Art Deco Fox Theater. Here are some of the best places for your team to visit during your time in Spokane.

Riverfront Park

In 1974, Spokane became the smallest city to host a World’s Fair, Expo ’74. The fair was the first ever environmentally-themed world’s fair and became a catalyst for reclaiming Spokane’s Great Northern railroad yard, which had fallen into disrepair. Today, the fair site is the downtown area’s beautiful 100-acre Riverfront Park.

Many of the structures in Riverfront Park that were built for the fair have since become Spokane landmarks. The former United States Pavilion is now home to an IMAX theatre. The IMAX theater seats 385 people and features 53 foot high by 69 foot wide screen. It maintains public hours of operation year-round. Alongside the IMAX, you’ll find one of the best outdoor skating rinks in the nation: the Riverfront Park Ice Palace. Open from October through March, skate rentals and lessons are available. Created in 1909 by Charles Looff, Spokane’s famous carousel is a National Historical Landmark and is frequently recognized as one of America’s most beautiful and well preserved hand-carved wooden carousels. The carousel is open March through December. If your team’s tournament happens to be at the Spokane Convention Center, this attraction is less than half a mile away! 507 N Howard St, Spokane, WA 99201
