Dance Revolution, a faith-based dance convention directed by Michelle Brogan, is coming to a city near you bringing top notch training, fresh choreography, a welcoming atmosphere, showcases, dance parties and powerful sermons. This convention’s uniqueness comes from the spirituality involved, and the belief that the Lord is at the forefront of everything they do. During workshops students learn to enhance their technique in various styles of dance, while developing character through biblical application. If you haven’t been to this convention already, take this opportunity to meet the director and her talented staff of instructors, and see why people feel transformed after leaving this event.

Faculty of givers

dance revolution givingGuiding the next generation of dancers to greatness is a team of professional performers and choreographers. These professionals cherish the act of giving back and sharing their years of experience with others. One such teacher is Misty Lown, who is known for her heart of gold. She is the founder and president of Misty’s Dance Unlimited studio, which provided over $200,000 in cash and scholarships to young female dancers. They also hosted an event that raised over $400,000 for the American Red Cross. Dance Spirit Magazine named Misty’s Dance Studio as one of the “Top 50 Studios in the Nation,” and the companies she works with perform in the Macy’s Thanks Giving Day Parade in NYC, and in Walt Disney World. Misty is also a successful writer, with over 40 published articles in the Dance Studio Life magazine.

Another industry favorite is Vincent Hardy. His variety of dance abilities earned him a scholarship to the Academy of Performing Arts in San Diego, and another full scholarship to Philadelphia University of the Arts. At Philadelphia University, he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Ballet, and during his senior year he joined Complexions Contemporary Ballet and toured with the company throughout the U.S., Italy, and Israel.

Upon his return, he pursued a career in commercial dance and performed in Los Angeles. During this time he realized he no longer wanted to perform for the sake of performing, but wanted his art to have reason. He found his answers through God and spirituality. Today, Vincent uses his gift to choreograph and teaches students that dance is something blessed by God, and has the ability to express meaning, love and hope. Family friendly atmosphere and tasteful routines

Due to Dance Revolutions centeredness on faith and respect for viewers and students, they ask that all routines be tasteful. Dance Revolution will not permit any sexual or inappropriate movements, or suggestive or questionable lyrics. Costumes must adhere to these regulations as well, and not reveal too much skin. Any contestants who disobey these rules will be disqualified.

Showcase

At each convention, Dance Revolution offers a showcase for dancers to get on stage and show off the skills they work hard to perfect. In an effort to create a supportive and encouraging environment, this part of the convention is not scored, only critiqued. The critiques will be recorded on an audio device, and students or studios may request the audio files in an email. The files arrive a week after the event is over.

Outstanding teacher award

In recognition of the teachers responsible for this world of extremely talented young performers, Dance Revolution awards an  outstanding teacher at each location. For eligibility, students must fill out a form posted on the DR website, explaining why they believe their teacher is worthy of this award. Then, they must submit the form to the DR Main Table by the end of the DR Showcase. To celebrate the teachers even more, take them out for lunch or dinner in the surrounding area. For example, there is sure to be some memorable dining experiences in the historically rich town of Winston Salem, NC.

Get Dance Revolution in “Express” style

As suggested in the name, DR Express (the second to last event on the tour) is Dance Revolution’s express event. This gives participants the chance to see what the full conventions are like, in a condensed period of time. This event offers classes in jazz, ballet, hip-hop, and contemporary styles (in addition to others) and is open to teachers, dancers and parents. DR Express spans from Saturday to Sunday afternoon and includes an “illuminate dance party.” They encourage party goers to wear anything that glows, shines and is bright.  DR Express is perfect for people who are on the fence about enrolling in Dance Revolution’s multi-day conventions and need that extra nudge before making the final decision.

Make the earth rumble beneath you at Earthshakers the Competition

The Earthshakers Competition is the last event on the tour, and it challenges students of all ages to grow by pushing their limits. Dancers who demonstrate the most growth receive awards for their outstanding commitment and hard work. Students can expect interaction and personalized attention from judges, time for Group Stretch, and an improv category. Specialty awards and scholarships include but are not limited to Excellence in Artistry (awarded to the best choreographed routine) and the Earth Shakers Globe Award for the top scoring dance of the day. In the words of Dance Revolutions director, “This will be an event that will make a huge impact and difference in your studio life, and shake the earth of the performing arts.”

As the only faith-based dance convention in the U.S., this convention has been changing the face of dance through their belief in God, and His involvement in all of their events. This convention will help you find your purpose within, leave you inspired, motivated and ready to take on new challenges in dance.
