Hotels4Teams isn't a booking engine that happens to list sports venues. It was built from the ground up by a family that's spent over 25 years in the sports housing industry.

Where it started

In the late 1990s, youth sports tournaments were booming across the country, but the hotel side of travel hadn't caught up. Events had no way to manage the demand they were creating, and families were left to figure out lodging on their own — searching for hotels near venues they'd never been to, in cities they didn't know. In 1998, Tom Berkman founded Tournament Housing Services (THS) to fix that. With more than two decades in the hotel industry behind him, Tom partnered directly with tournaments, negotiated group rates on behalf of traveling teams, and turned sports housing into a real business. THS quickly became one of the most trusted names in the space.

In 2016, Tom and his son Kyle launched Hotels4Teams to take that same approach online. Built by Ascent Digital Media and powered by HotelPlanner's worldwide hotel inventory, the site brought venue-first hotel search to anyone planning a trip around a game, tournament, or event. The idea was simple: start at the venue, show what's nearby, and back it up with real expertise.

Since then, the platform has grown steadily. The venue database has expanded, the technology has been refined, and in 2026 the entire site was rebuilt from the ground up — faster, smarter, and designed for the next decade of sports and event travel.

Owner-operated

Hotels4Teams is family-owned and operated by someone who grew up in the sports housing industry. The owner runs the platform, manages the product, and stays close to the customer experience. When an issue gets escalated, it doesn't go to a call center — it goes to the person who built the site.

Behind the scenes, a dedicated support team handles day-to-day booking questions, group requests, and travel logistics. It's a small operation by design. Every page on this site is reviewed, every feature is intentional, and nothing ships that isn't ready. The technology keeps evolving, but the mission hasn't changed: help teams find the right hotel near any venue in the country.
