The closest eatery to Alfred State College is Little Sicily Pizza & Restaurant. It is just over a mile from the school. As you approach, you can admire the seasonal freehand paintings that adorn the windows. If you head there during the spring and summer, you can stop and view the beautiful flowers in bloom in the front of the restaurant.

In this little restaurant, you will find local ingredients being used to create dishes ranging from pizzas to hoagies. This family-friendly eatery is a local favorite. They serve over 30 flavors of Perry’s Ice Cream. Customers can hang out at the picnic tables, and children can play on the small playground. On weekends, they serve home-cooked barbecue. Stop by to try ribs or a pulled pork sandwich.

 

Marino’s Restaurant

Originally opened by Fran Marino in 2004, Marino’s Restaurant is now owned by Joe Shepherd. Driven by the same commitment as Marino, Shepherd is there daily to make sure the restaurant maintains its excellence.

Marino’s is a very popular eatery with the locals. Its location near multiple colleges has allowed them to draw in many visitors as well. When you visit Alfreds State College, which is about 11 miles away, stop by and see how Marino’s keeps customers coming back.

Start your meal with a classic Italian appetizer of bruschetta. If you’re looking for a favorite pasta dish for an entree, order the capellini pomodoro or Alfredo Marino. The Capellini Pomodoro comes with chopped tomatoes, garlic, basil, olive oil, and Parmesan cheese. If you enjoy artichoke hearts, spinach, and mushrooms, the Alfredo Marino is right up your alley.

The burgers at Rockburgers are made to order and there’s a variety to choose from. Try the Rockburger, named after the eatery, that comes with Italian dressing. Not in the mood for a burger? You can try curly fries, sweet potato fries, or loaded fries topped with bacon, beans, and melted cheese. Modern Diner

Modern Diner is a small establishment and has been in Wellsville for over 80 years. Even though “modern” is in the name, the atmosphere is nostalgic, bringing the essence of a ’50s diner to life. The homemade, freshly prepared meals have made this a very popular spot with the locals. Plus, the food is budget-friendly. It can fill up quickly during peak hours, so keep this in mind when planning your visit. The drive there from Alfred State College is about 20 minutes. Be sure to have cash on hand when you arrive because they do not take credit cards.

Modern Diner is a must-try for breakfast. There are many egg and omelet options, such as steak and eggs, a bacon and cheese omelet, veggie omelet, and more. Homemade donuts are less than a dollar and can be added to any breakfast dish. Most breakfasts are served with toast, so make sure you get a side of homemade jam for spreading. If you’re stopping in for lunch or dinner, past customers rave about the fish fry, coleslaw, club sandwiches, lasagna, and bacon cheeseburger. If you’re on the hunt for delicious Chinese food, a short walk down the street from Modern Diner lands you at Dragon House. Much like the diner, this eatery is frequented by locals.

Whether you order General Tso’s chicken, lo mein, crispy orange beef, chicken and broccoli, or any of their other delicious dishes, Dragon House won’t disappoint. If you don’t want to make the drive there from Alfred State College, they also deliver.

 

Texas Hot

Walk a little farther down the street from Dragon House and Modern Diner and you’ll eventually hit Texas Hot. This is another diner in Wellsville that has been around for over 90 years and is loved by the local crowd. Prompt service, reasonable prices, and unique food are what have kept this diner thriving.

When you come to Texas Hot, there’s almost an obligation to try a hot dog or burger with Texas Hot Sauce. This isn’t just some ordinary hot sauce. It is a meat sauce made with mustard, onions, and hot sauce. You can pair one of the Texas Hot sandwiches with the classic side dish of fries and gravy. The meal is all tied together by a milkshake.
