Nassau County Aquatic Center – Sports Bars

Nassau County Aquatic Center in East Meadow, New York, regularly hosts swimming and diving competitions. It is considered one of the best swimming facilities in the United States, so you’re lucky to be visiting! From swim clubs to breaking world records, a lot has taken place in at the Nassau County Aquatic Center. The 80,000-square-foot facility serves New York locals and visitors to the area, keeping people of all ages active.

It’s not surprising that a state like New York is home to such a state-of-the-art facility because it’s a state that takes its sports seriously. With teams like the Giants, Yankees, Rangers, and Islanders, sports play an important role in New York culture.

Wondering where can you go to watch major sporting events after visiting the Nassau County Aquatic Center? Fortunately there are quite a few sports bars nearby that are awesome hangout spots for a game.

The Greene Turtle

The Greene Turtle is a mid-Atlantic chain that has been booming for over 40 years. The mentality to create a community hangout with a casual atmosphere has allowed them to expand and become a widely successful sports bar franchise. For an exciting place to catch a game, you don’t need to go far because The Greene Turtle is about half a mile from the Nassau County Aquatic Center.

Nassau County Aquatic Center

Televisions line nearly every wall in the restaurant. Whether you sit at the bar, a table, or in a booth, you will always be able to see a television, so you’ll never miss a second of the game! Take a look around during the commercial breaks and you’ll find that every wall is decorated with sports memorabilia and pictures.

Watching the game is made even better with food and beer. The Greene Turtle welcomes groups to come in and enjoy shareables. Each shareable plate serves about four people. Try a favorite like the hand-breaded chicken tenders that come with a choice of dipping sauce or a Maryland-inspired dish like the crab dip served with warm pretzel sticks. If you’re still hungry, there’s plenty more to choose from, including pizza, tacos, burgers, sandwiches, and wraps.

You’ll probably want a drink while you watch the game, and The Greene Turtle has a wide variety of beers, both on tap and in bottles. The Greene Turtle also sells its own beer called the Shell Raiser. There are three variations of the Shell Raiser: IPA, pale ale, and orange Belgian-style Wit beer.

Canz

Forget your troubles and dive into sports and beer at Canz. With many tables and seats at the bar available, groups will have an easy time settling in near one of their many televisions. From the Nassau County Aquatic Center, drive just over a mile and a half to Canz to enjoy a game and happy hour specials.

As the name suggests, Canz sells a variety of canned beers. They’ve also got some on tap. When there is a game on, be it baseball, basketball, or a UFC fight, they have awesome drink specials for their patrons. Beer specials are also available during karaoke nights.

Of course, Canz wouldn’t be a great sports hangout without some bar food to chow down on. Some of the most popular dishes are the grilled chicken sandwich, Classic Canz Sirloin Burger, and Canz Almost Famous Wingz. The wings can be topped with a variety of sauces, including mild, hot, barbecue, honey barbecue, honey glazed, teriyaki, sweet Thai chili, or Dirty Canz Hot Sauce.

Miller’s Ale House

Miller’s Ale House is an East Coast sports bar chain. Their Levittown location, which is a 12-minute drive from the Nassau County Aquatic Center, is ready for crowds. The inside is spacious with ample seating at the bar, booths, and bar stool tables. No matter where you sit, a television is visible.

Similar to The Greene Turtle, Miller’s has shareables on their menu, so bring friends to share a meal. You can’t go wrong with a plate of Zingers, which are Miller’s fresh, hand-breaded buttermilk chicken tenders. Another popular option is the Zingers Mountain Melt, which comes with fries and Zingers that are topped with Monterey Jack and Cheddar cheese, bacon, and scallions.

Vegetarians will love this sports bar because there are mouthwatering meat-free items to try. Whether you want to order a shareable of the crispy cauliflower or an entree like the Gardein chipotle black bean veggie burger, Miller’s has a decent selection of meatless options.

Like at any good sports bar, the beer is always flowing at Miller’s Ale House. In fact, there are over 75 varieties of beer there. Miller’s also serves signature cocktail pitchers. So if you ever get tired of beer, order one of their specialty drinks to mix it up.

Croxley’s Original Ale House & Eatery

If you’re looking for a slightly more intimate setting, head to Croxley’s Original Ale House & Eatery. Unlike the sports bars we previously mentioned, this is a slightly smaller location frequented by locals, but there are still enough televisions to never miss a minute of the game. The staff is down-to-earth and attentive, so you are definitely in good company when you come to Croxley’s.

The menu is diverse in its cuisine. You can grab anything from a quesadilla or burger to shepherd’s pie or a mussel pot. Wings are very popular at Croxley’s. They’re crispy and savory and can be topped with a variety of sauces. There are standard sauces like hot, mild, or barbecue, but you can order them with special sauces, such as Jamaican Jerk, Italian Stallion, or Garlic Parmesan. The wings pair great with one of there many beers on tap. Beers are always rotating in and out with the seasons, but try one of the locally brewed beers in the “Drink Long Island” section of the menu.

Croxley’s is a bit farther from the Nassau County Aquatic Center than the aforementioned bars. It is about a 20-minute drive, but once you get there, you will feel right at home!

Recovery Room Bar & Grill

Nassau County Aquatic CenterOur final recommended sports bar is the Irish pub named Recovery Room Bar & Grill. It is located about 15 minutes from the Nassau County Aquatic Center. Unlike the other sports bars, the Recovery Room doesn’t have dozens of televisions on every single wall, but you will still be able to see a television from any seat. Owners Regis and Cristi invite locals and visitors alike to come in and enjoy a pint of Guinness while watching the game.

Since 2009, Recovery Room has been a local hangout. Even though you’re visiting to watch sports, you may want to stick around a while longer or come back on a different night to party like a local. On Thursday nights, you can join in on karaoke. DJ EJ is there every Friday night to play current hits. These might be the nights where you try one of their signature cocktails instead of a cold brew.
