Morning

When the sun rises, it’s time to spring out of bed and get some breakfast. If you’re looking for a cozy breakfast joint with great food and service, head on over to 11-Worth Cafe. This restaurant cooks up classic diner chow that’ll satisfy your stomach and taste buds. 11-Worth Cafe serves tons of breakfast classics like pancakes, eggs Benedict, sausage gravy, and corned beef hash. Because it wouldn’t be an Omaha diner without it, there’s also steak and eggs, and even chicken fried steak. The restaurant also has an entire menu devoted to one of the most beloved breakfast dishes: the omelet.

First and foremost, 11-Worth Cafe is a breakfast spot, but its menu offers much more. Fans of Mexican food are in luck. They can order dishes like burritos, quesadillas, and taco salad. Not much of a breakfast person? 11-Worth Cafe also serves lunch options, including roast beef, steak, and breaded pork tenderloin.

Need to work off some of that breakfast? Nothing beats a relaxing stroll through Heartland of America Park. The park is only a 12-minute walk from CHI Health Center Omaha; it’s quick to get to and one of the best places to relax in Omaha. You can walk along the Missouri River and lounge around on the Gene Leahy Mall. One of the park’s most notable features is the fountain display. This fountain shoots water as high as 320 feet and at night, incorporates lights into the show. If you’ve been doing a little too much walking, you can explore the park in an entirely different way thanks to Heartland Gondola’s gondola rides.

Make sure to cross the pedestrian bridge that connects the park to Lewis & Clark Landing. This historical site was the original landing site of the famed Lewis and Clark Expedition. As you walk around, you’ll discover a few exhibits educating you on their harrowing journey.

Need even more convincing of how awesome Heartland of America Park is? Well, it’s adjacent to Old Market, one of Omaha’s most popular neighborhoods. So once you finish up at the park, you can get something to eat, go shopping, and more.

Just a 15-minute walk from CHI Health Center Omaha, and right next to Heartland of America Park, is Twisted Fork. This funky, contemporary American restaurant is all about comfort food. It’s a definite must-visit when you’re in Omaha.

For starters, try the chicken fried bacon with Southern peppercorn gravy. Where else are you going to find such an over-the-top appetizer? The Twisted Tater Tots are another must-try. Looking for something a little healthier? Go for the Brussels sprouts, prepared with Parmesan and prosciutto. Okay… maybe they aren’t that much healthier.

Now, if you really do want some healthier options, try one of Twisted Fork’s salads. The portions are more than enough to fill you. Choose from eight options, such as the strawberry chicken salad, Thai salmon salad, and grilled summer salad.

Twisted Fork’s entrees are mostly meat-forward. Between standouts like the Pitchfork Ranch Meatloaf-N-Mac, Cowboy Chicken Fried Steak, and Bacon Gouda Pork Chop, you’ll probably be experiencing meat overload once you finish your meal. There are a few seafood choices in case you’re interested, most notably the coffee-dusted salmon and blackened salmon taco.

CHI Health Center OmahaIf you aren’t too stuffed after eating such an extravagant meal, hop on the 13 Downtown bus or take an Uber over to Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium. This attraction is best suited for when you have a couple of hours to kill. Otherwise, you won’t get to experience the zoo in all its glory. That’s because there are 160 acres teeming with exotic animals from around the world for you to discover.

Each exhibit is modeled after a specific habitat like the jungle, desert, and grasslands. Travel to the other side of the globe and get lost in Asian Highlands. Here, you’ll spot adorable animals like red pandas, sloth bears, and tufted deer. You’ll also see some not-as-cuddly creatures, such as Amur tigers and snow leopards.

Next, venture to African Grasslands. This exhibit was recently awarded the number two spot on USA Today’s 10 Best Reader’s Choice list of the Best Zoo Exhibits in North America. This 28-acre habitat houses some fan-favorite animals like Grevy’s zebra, giraffes, African elephants, and cheetahs. Some other popular, must-see exhibits include Lied Jungle, Desert Dome, and the Suzanne and Walter Scott Aquarium. Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium’s reputation precedes itself, and for good reason. Don’t skip this attraction.

Night

When the name Omaha gets mentioned, most people think of steaks, partly because of the Omaha Steaks company, and partly because the city is known for being full of exceptional steakhouses. Going to Omaha and not stopping to eat at a steak house is practically sacrilegious. Fortunately, Spencer’s for Steaks and Chops is close to CHI Health Center Omaha in the Old Market neighborhood.

Not surprisingly, Spencer’s grills a lot of different cuts of meat: filet mignon, bone-in ribeye, New York strip, porterhouse, and more. Not big on steak? Don’t worry. Spencer’s also serves seafood dishes like Canadian cold water lobster tail, sea scallops, and Scottish Salmon. There are also seasonal specialties, small plates, and sides available to order. Keep in mind that this is a ritzy restaurant, so the bill will be on the pricier side.

Steak houses are great, but sometimes you’re in the mood for more something a little more casual. Just a 10-minute walk from CHI Health Center Omaha, DJ’s Dugout Sports Bar is a cozy restaurant that serves plenty of tasty pub grub. The menu is stuffed with standard bar fare that pairs perfectly with a nice cold beer.

DJ’s Dugout also has a lot of sharable appetizers, such as chicken wings, nachos, and mac and cheese wedges. Sandwiches, wraps, and burgers make up a large part of the menu as well. As far as traditional entrees go, DJ’s offers several options, including Guinness fish and chips, steak and eggs, a chicken strips and fries basket, New York strip steak, and more.

CHI Health Center OmahaKeep the party going after dinner and try a craft beer or spirits tasting at Brickway Brewery & Distillery. This popular hangout makes some of the best craft beer and liquor in Omaha. For beer, your options are plentiful. Brickway brews an India pale lager, coffee vanilla stout, a Pilsner, and a Hefeweizen. Throughout the year, Brickway also brews seasonal beers like an oatmeal pale ale, an Oktoberfest-style beer, and maple pecan brown ale.

If you’re more of a whiskey drinker, the spirits tasting is perfect for you, consisting of single malt whiskey, white whiskey, bourbon, cinnamon whiskey, gin, vodka, and rum. It’s a good thing Brickway Brewery & Distillery is less than a 20-minute walk back to CHI Health Center Omaha. That way you won’t have to worry about driving.

In case you need a little more convincing about going to Brickway Brewery & Distillery, they serve food there too. The kitchen whips up delicious dishes like loaded pretzels, red curry lavosh, and a braised brat sandwich. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. The food menu offers plenty more mouthwatering meals. You really can’t go wrong with this place.

Dinner and a show; it’s a tried and true pairing. Once you wrap up dinner, go watch a performance at the Orpheum Theater. This theater is affiliated with Omaha Performing Arts, so the people in charge definitely know what they’re doing. A lot of amazing performances have happened over the years at this historic venue.

The Orpheum Theater opened its doors in 1927, and since that time has been a cultural epicenter for the city. It’s also received numerous renovations, including a $10 million expansion to accommodate larger and more complicated sets and scenery. No matter what your taste in entertainment is, there’s bound to be a show for you. The Orpheum Theater hosts Broadway plays, concerts, stand-up comedy shows, and more.
