Boo Williams Sportsplex – Dining

When you visit the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton, Virginia, you’ll probably notice that the surrounding area is home to many chain restaurants and fast food joints. While that can be useful when you’re in a rush, you’ll be glad to know that there are great sit-down restaurants in the area as well.

There is a concession area inside the Boo Williams Sportsplex, so you can grab food and beverages before, after, or in between games and training. But when you’re out exploring Hampton, here are our recommendations for dining out.

Thai Papaya

Boo Williams Sportsplex

For quick, casual, and fresh food at affordable prices, visit Thai Papaya. It is conveniently located in a strip mall less than a mile from the Boo Williams Sportsplex.

Whatever dish you order at Thai Papaya, you can always expect the freshest ingredients. They grow their own Thai herbs, such as basil and lemongrass. Dishes are packed with flavor, especially Thai spices, and they take spice very seriously. Any dish on the menu can be made at a varying level of spiciness, ranging from no heat to hot.

Start your meal off with an appetizer of spring rolls filled with chicken, vegetables, or tofu. For an entree, try the bamboo basil dish that comes with bamboo shoots and bell peppers in a basil sauce along with your choice of meat or vegetables. If you’re interested in a curry dish, there are seven options on the menu. Or you can always go with the classic pad Thai.

Thai Erawan Restaurant

Can’t get enough of Thai cuisine? Take a 10-minute drive from the Boo Williams Sportsplex over to Thai Erawan Restaurant for traditional Thai dishes in a laid-back setting.

Like Thai Papaya, Thai Erawan recognizes the importance of herbs and spices in their food. In Thailand, herbs are used for more than just flavor. They are used for medicinal and digestive benefits. This is why the founder of Thai Erawan, Benji Best, prepares each dish with care, ensuring that it is as fresh, healthy, and delicious as possible.

Begin with an appetizer of Crab Angels, which is crab meat mixed with cream cheese bundled in wonton wrapper and deep fried. It comes with a sweet and sour sauce on the side for dipping. If that appetizer filled you up, have a salad as your entree, which are known as yum in Thai. There are also curries, soups, and noodle dishes to choose from. Some of the most popular dishes on the menu are perfect for seafood lovers. These meals include the Phuket Seafood, Robin Shrimp, goong saparos, Pirates Treasure, and crispy whole flounder.

El Azteca Mexican Restaurant

Hungry for some classic Mexican cooking? Near the Peninsula Town Center and a nine-minute drive from the Boo Williams Sportsplex is El Azteca Mexican Restaurant. This warm and welcoming eatery has plenty of options and generous portions, so you’ll definitely leave with a full belly!

The menu is filled with quintessential Mexican dishes, such as burritos, tacos, enchiladas, tamales, and chalupas. If you’re really hungry, try a combination plate like one with a bean chalupa, chicken quesadilla, and rice. Those who love seafood can order the shrimp chimichanga or tacos de pescado. There is a section on the menu for vegetarians as well. Vegetarian options include items like bean burritos, cheese enchiladas, and mushroom quesadillas.

Monsoon Indian Bistro

Like the previously mentioned El Azteca, Monsoon Indian Bistro is a nine-minute drive from the Boo Williams Sportsplex and is located in the Peninsula Town Center. This restaurant’s contemporary, Zen-like atmosphere is a great place to relax with a drink from the bar and a plate of delicious Indian cuisine.

This restaurant shares some qualities with the aforementioned eateries. Similar to the two Thai restaurants, guests can choose their spice levels. Some may believe all Indian food is hot and spicy, but Monsoon wants its guests to know that this is not the case. Different spices are simply used to add flavor and aroma. This is why all meals are made fresh to accommodate your desired spice level, whether that is mild or hot.

Monsoon’s menu is impressive, giving its guests a lot of options ranging from chutney to chicken entrees to fully vegetarian dishes. Various types of chutney are available, such as a mint chutney and onion chutney. They also use a tandoor oven to make the mouthwatering sizzler dishes. Try a sizzler like the masaledar lamb chops or the Chef’s Garlic Chicken Tikka.

Regardless of what you have as an entree, make sure to save room for one of Monsoon’s traditional Indian desserts. Indulge in kheer, an Indian version of rice pudding or try galub jamun, which is fried milk pastry balls in honey syrup.

Take a nine-minute drive over from the Boo Williams Sportsplex for traditional Japanese food.
