Embarking on their 30th year in business, Showbiz National Talent knows how to put the “show” in showbiz. From their first tour in 1988, this company sought to provide more than just students performing on stage. By listening to studio owners, dancers, and parents, they’ve created a dance competition paradise.

First and foremost, Showbiz ensures fairness through 3 level divisions and 6-8 age divisions. With these divisions in place, dancers can compete confidently, knowing they’re equally matched. Second, their staff consists of current and former dancers who worked in all areas of the industry. No matter what concern pops in your head, know the staff already lived it and has a solution. For instance, if you‘re worried about judging, don’t be; Showbiz selects the strongest panel of judges, who watch, notice and appreciate every detail. The list of pros for Showbiz National Talent is endless, from $25 media packages, challenging dance battles, to scholarship offerings. Showbiz’s mission is to constantly improve, and in all 30 years, they can proudly say “mission accomplished.”

Showbiz National Talent new media package pricing

Showbiz pic 1The price for watching a performance or getting viewing access from a computer is typically not as cheap as one would hope. Showbiz National Talent is busting down doors, offering a media package for $25. With the package, you get an HD video and photos from every routine. It doesn’t get any better than this, especially for large groups. Think about it for a moment, studios with 30 or more performers pays less than a dollar per dancer for the package. Plus, the video is yours to keep, so feel free to go back and relive those precious moments to your heart’s desire.

New and improved age divisions

At times, it is discouraging to compete knowing you’ll be up against older dancers who are bigger and may have more experience. Well, to suppress any fears or unfairness, for 2017 and onward, Showbiz National Talent is introducing new age divisions for solos. By breaking ages into eight divisions, the scores for each dancer will be more accurate. As many competition veterans know, judging a solo performance is vastly different from judging a group, hence the need for additional performance separation. The age divisions range from Mini (for the itty-bitty’s, age 5 and under) to Adult (age 20 and older).  For now, the 6 age divisions for duets/trios and group performances remain the same, but are just as fair as the solo divisions.

Flying solo at Showbiz National Talent?

While it’s hypnotic to see everyone in a group move in sync and feed off the emotion of one another, there’s something to be said about the regal beauty of a solo performance. They require immense bravery, as they reflect the creativity and work of one person. Literally all eyes are on you, and there is no one else on the stage to collaborate with or blame for errors.

If you’re in need of some encouragement before taking the plunge, look at this video from one of Showbiz’s competitions. It features a young deaf woman dancing in lyrical style, feeling and hearing the music her own way. “You can make fun of how I speak, you can make fun of how I can’t hear, but you cannot take away what I love to do. Dancing gives me life,” she says. Her actions prove fear is no reason to hold anyone back from their passions. The judges at Showbiz National talent are ready to be “wowed,” so show them the beauty of flying solo.

Celebrate 30 years in business with an 80s theme categoryShowbiz pic 2

Dress up like Madonna, George Michael and Cyndi Lauper, with teased hair, and mesh and lace outfits for Showbiz National Talent’s 80’s category! Every season or two, they select a theme from a time period, and it’s up to competing groups to come up with choreography. This entertaining event is open to all group sizes and age divisions. Routines may incorporate any style of dance; however keep in mind the theme must appear throughout the performance. So, if you’re not sure what the popular, hit dance moves were during that time, start studying!

Let you skills determine placement

Showbiz National Dance recognizes that skill levels vary, it’s a fact of life, and therefore they would never expect a novice dancer to equally compare to an expert. In support of fair competition, they offer 3 levels based on current dancing abilities. The levels are Sapphire, Ruby, and Diamond, beginning with newbies in Sapphire and veterans in Diamond. As a general rule of thumb, place dancers practicing less than 6 hours a week in the Sapphire level.  Showbiz considers dancers practicing under 10 hours a week as Ruby’s. Last but not least, the Diamond level is most appropriate for dancers working over 10 hours. To see a full list of Showbiz events arranged by month, please see the end of the article.

Showbiz National Talent brings you 4 blow-out Nationals

Why have one of something when you can have 4? At least that’s the mentality of Showbiz National Talent. They’re placing all 4 of their Nationals in much-loved locations like Forth Worth, TX at the Fort Worth Convention Center.  Every event features a Solo Show-Down, a Duet/Trio Battle, Grand Finals, and an awards presentation for the Senior Scholarship winner.

To encourage versatility, Nationals offer over 20 dance categories, including Biz Kids. Biz Kids is the perfect category to acclimate young guns to the world of competitive dance. Their routines won’t be judged, making this a great light-hearted and fun opportunity.  They will however receive positive feedback so if they can’t live without dance, they’ll have a sound sense of where they stand technically and parents can know what steps to take next.

Nationals Solo Show Down

The Showbiz National Talent Showdown is the final test to settle who carries the most talent individually. The top 3 Solo finalists from Regionals from all 8 solo age divisions duke it out on stage. But here’s the catch; only Ruby and Diamond level dancers are eligible. Don’t worry any Sapphires out there, get a bit more practice and experience under your belt and your time will come.  Understanding nerves get in the way sometimes, the judges scratch scores from the first round of competition. Then, they select 3 incredible dancers to compete for the Overall Solo Title.

Nationals Duet/ Trio Battle

Ever wondered how your dance crew compares to others in an intense, blood-pumping situation? Put your skills to the test during Duet/ Trio Battle. The Top 3 performances from each Regional event try their best to impress on stage.  Similar to the Solo Show Down, the judges scratch scores from the first round. Then, the 3 best dance crews vie for the title of Overall Duet/ Trio Champion Title in Ruby and Diamond divisions.

National Senior Scholarship Winner

Dance is an expensive sport, especially after taking into account all the classes, conventions, workshops, and outfits it requires. To help ease the burden, Showbiz National Talent awards scholarships. Without scholarships, some dreams would cease to exist, leaving students unaware of what the future holds. For the Senior Scholarship, Showbiz asks graduating seniors to submit an essay, explaining the impact dance in their lives. It must be a minimum of 500 words, but if dance is your true calling, telling the story of your love for it in 500 words should be a piece of cake. Showbiz announces scholarship winners at each National event.

Showbiz National Talent promises your studio walks away eager for their next competition. Every event whether it’s Regionals or Nationals, offers fantastic opportunities for groups and solo performers to take dance to new depths.  The hearing impaired soloists shattered any and all stereotypes, proving anything is achievable given the dedication and proper atmosphere.  In 30 years, Showbiz never failed to take risks in the pursuit of bettering the industry, and they definitely won’t start now.
