Happy Father’s Day to all of those awesome sports dads out there! Games wouldn’t be the same without you in the bleachers cheering on the team. You’re some of the biggest fans and you always find time to help out and get involved in your child’s team.

This Father’s Day, we decided to take a look at three very recognizable sports dads that raised professional athletes. Your kid may not be making millions of dollars playing pro sports, but you know the struggles these guys went through raising a youth athlete.

Richard Williams

Any tennis fan will most likely recognize this name pretty quickly. Richard Williams is the father of tennis superstars Venus and Serena Williams. When Venus and Serena were young, Richard introduced them to the sport and saw the potential both of his daughters had. He says that he wrote a 78 page plan on coaching and improving Venus and Serena. Lessons started when they were four and a half years old. He continues to be the coach for both of his daughters to this day. Whether you’re a tennis fan or not you have to give Richard Williams some respect. Based on Venus and Serena’s accomplishments, the man certainly knows a few things about tennis.

Archie Manning

Good things must come in two for sports dads, because Richard Williams and Archie Manning both have two children that are professional athletes. Unlike Richard Williams, Archie Manning was a professional athlete himself. As a quarterback in the NFL from 1971 to 1984, Archie was the first of three Manning quarterbacks. You may know his sons Peyton and Eli, both of whom are Super Bowl winning quarterbacks. Archie also has a third son Cooper, who showed immense promise as a wide receiver until he was diagnosed with Spinal Stenosis, which ended his professional football career before it could start. You can bet Archie spent countless hours in the backyard throwing the football with his sons and molding them as football players. That dedication paid off because Peyton and Eli both have succeeded in the NFL.

LaVar Ball

If you follow the NBA or college basketball at all, you already know who LaVar Ball is. He’s the father of Lonzo Ball – point guard for the Los Angeles Lakers – as well as his younger sons LiAngelo and LaMelo. LiAngelo is currently playing professionally over in the Lithuanian Basketball League. LaMelo also played in the Lithuanian League, but now plays in the Junior Basketball Association, a league created by his father. Whether you like him or not, you have to admit that LaVar Ball is many things: business man, basketball coach, and above all, sports dad. He has three sons that are working towards having prosperous NBA careers and he’s doing everything he can to help them achieve that goal.
