Old Fort Marcy Park

Marking the 1846 site of the first U.S. military reservation in the southwest, Old Fort Marcy Park overlooks the northeast corner of downtown Santa Fe. Although the trek to get to the top is entirely uphill, you and your team will definitely be glad you made the climb once you take in the majestic vistas that await you. Even the walk itself is an experience, thanks to the various interpretive plaques that are dotted along the way. These plaques tell the history of Fort Marcy and will help you and your team to envision the structure that once stood there. 617 Paseo de Peralta, Santa Fe, NM 87501

In May 2009, the New Mexico History Museum became the state’s newest museum. It’s located just adjacent to the state’s oldest museum, the Palace of the Governors, a National Historic Landmark that is, in a way, the New Mexico History Museum’s largest artifact. Within the museum’s walls, you and your team will explore more than 500 years of stories that made the American west what it is today. Begin your experience at the museum’s permanent exhibit Telling New Mexico: Stories from Then and Now, which explores the diverse experiences of Native peoples, Spanish colonists, Santa Fe Trail riders, outlaws, artists, scientists, hippies, and more. These stories are told through a variety of mediums, such as artifacts, documents, maps, films, interactive features, and hands-on workshops.

Your journey through New Mexico’s past doesn’t end once you’ve seen all that this incredible exhibit has to offer. You and your team can browse handcrafted wares made by local artisans at the Palace Portal, get a glimpse of early printing techniques at the Palace Press, and head upstairs in the museum to explore their rotating exhibitions.
