Stamford – Things to do with your Team

Located in Fairfield County, Connecticut, Stamford is a city that’s home to four Fortune 500 Companies, nine Fortune 1000 Companies, and 13 Courant 100 Companies, as well as numerous divisions of large corporations, which altogether makes Stamford one of the largest concentrations of corporations in the nation. It’s no wonder Stamford has been nicknamed “The City That Works;” but all work and no play makes for a pretty dull stay. Luckily for you and your team, that isn’t actually the case. For all the corporations based in Stamford there are just as many great, family-friendly attractions that everyone is sure to enjoy.

Stamford Museum & Nature Center

Stamford - Things to do with your Team - Travel - Hotels4TeamsThe Stamford Museum & Nature Center is a great way to spend a few hours with your team among the calming beauty of nature, seemingly far away from the hustle and bustle of “The City That Works” and your team’s hectic travel schedule. It would take days to see all that the Stamford Museum & Nature Center has to offer however. The center’s sprawling 118-acre property is home to a variety of amazing sights like Heckscher Farm, an 10-acre, fully-operational farm featuring barns, a maple sugar house, an organic vegetable garden, wide open pastures, and, of course, dozens of farm animals.

At the Stamford Museum & Nature Center you and your team can also visit Overbrook Nature Center, the focal point of the center’s educational programs with an interactive exhibit area and 80 acres of walking trails located behind the building; the Bendel Mansion, a historic Tudor mansion built in the late 1920s that currently functions as a public gallery and museum space; the Edith and Robert Graham Otter Pond, home to the center’s resident river otter friends; the Stamford Observatory; and so much more! In addition to all of these fantastic facilities, the Stamford Museum & Nature Center also offers seasonal exhibits and weekend festivals where you and your team can experience the natural history and culture of the region. 39 Scofieldtown Rd, Stamford, CT 06903

The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk

Since 1988, The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk has been inspiring visitors of all ages to appreciate and understand the ecology of the Long Island Sound. Located only a short drive away from Stamford, the aquarium is a great way for you and your team to enjoy some educational entertainment during your stay in Connecticut. There your group can explore the museum’s 140,000-square-foot facility housed in a former 1860s iron works factory at your own pace as you observe their 34 exhibits featuring more than 1,200 marine animals of 259 different species. Your journey will begin on the banks of a freshwater river and the brackish, shallow waters of the salt marsh and then will move into progressively deeper habitats, eventually reaching exhibits that showcase the aquatic life of the open ocean.

The Maritime Aquarium is also home to Connecticut’s largest IMAX Theater with a massive, six-story-tall movie screen. The venue will offer you and your group an immersive, larger-than-life viewing experience, whether you choose to go there to see educational programming or a feature-length Hollywood film. Make sure to leave some time for you and your team to shop and dine at the aquarium’s gift shop and Cascade Café. Sheffield Island Lighthouse

The Sheffield Island Lighthouse has been a fixture of Norwalk, Connecticut for some time now, since 1868 actually. This beacon of light served the sailors of the area for 34 years until 1902. It was then retired and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Instead of acting as a guide for boats, the Sheffield Island Lighthouse now educates visitors on its past. The building and island have been converted into a museum and nature preserve. The best way to get to the island is to take the Seaport Ferry.
