Fort Smith – Things to do with your Team

Back in the days of westward expansion, Fort Smith was nothing more than a corridor to the unknown.  Founded as a frontier military post in 1817, Fort Smith became a vital component in the settlement of the Wild West and the growth of the United States.  The city evolved into a popular stop for travelers hoping to start new lives out in the frontier.  Today, you may not be venturing into the unknown, and there might not be too many cowboys around, but Fort Smith will show you and your team a good time during your stay.  Make sure to take in a historical site or two while you’re there to get a better idea of just how important Fort Smith was to the growth of America.

Parrot Island Waterpark

When you think of water parks, one of the first things that probably come to your mind is the price.  It’s hard to find a water park that doesn’t rip you off at the gate.  When your team is in Fort Smith, you happen to have a great water park for a reasonable price right near you.  Parrot Island Waterpark has all of the water park necessities you look for.  Your team can race down the four fast paced water slides or lethargically float down the lazy river.

Parrot Island Water park is the only water park in the region that offers a wave pool.  A younger kid area is open in case you are traveling with any smaller children who want to get in on the action.  If the sun gets to be a little too much, cabanas are always available to relax, cool down, or eat the food you purchased from the snack shop.  The Island Breeze snack shop provides all the kid classic like pizza, hot dogs, burgers, and of course ice cream. 7300 Zero St, Fort Smith, AR 72903

Being in a city so rich in history, it would be a shame to not learn some of it while you’re there.  For a quick lesson of the city’s past, stop at the Fort Smith National Historic Site.  On this small site reside a couple of old buildings that were used throughout the 1800s.

Tour through the old Fort Smith federal court room and jailhouse and learn about the man affectionately known as the “Hanging Judge”.  Judge Isaac Parker was the presiding judge of the courtroom back in the 1800s.  His harsh reputation earned him the nickname of the “Hanging Judge”.  Fitting with the history of the site, there is an authentic gallows on display.  This slice of the west and the insight it provides into the judiciary system of the past is a fascinating attraction that’s certainly worth a visit. 301 Parker Ave, Fort Smith, AR 72901
