Memphis Rock n Soul Museum

A trip to Memphis wouldn’t be complete without stopping by the Memphis Rock n Soul Museum. This museum was developed by the Smithsonian Institute, so you know that you’re getting a top notch experience. Expect to learn a lot about the origins of rock and soul music, along with the legendary musicians of each genre. The exhibits are tailored towards the events and musicians that were around the Memphis area.

The galleries take you through decades of culture and musical development in the Mississippi Delta. You will clearly be able to trace the cultural influences that paved the way for soul and rock musicians. AutoZone Park

You won’t watch many minor league baseball teams more talented than the Memphis Redbirds. Head to their home field, located near the Memphis Cook Convention Center, for some action packed baseball fun. AutoZone Park, home of the Redbirds is an awesome venue to take your team for a game. In 2017, the Redbirds were the Pacific Coast League champions. This triple-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals has a lot of promising players on the roster.

Besides the team, AutoZone Park offers a lot of concession stands and different types of food. Everyone will easily be able to find something they’ll want to eat. Mud Island River Park

Mud Island River Park is one of a kind. On its grounds, you’ll be able to learn and play with a scale model of the Lower Mississippi River at the Riverwalk. This replica river has 20 cities marked along its banks and drains into a model Gulf of Mexico that’s roughly one acre in size. The model takes you all over the park and makes walking through grounds even more enjoyable. Pedal boats are also available to be taken out on the lake. A nominal fee gets you a half hour of nautical fun with one other person.

Situated on Mud Island River Park’s grounds close by the Memphis Cook Convention Center is the Mississippi River Museum. The exhibits showcased there focus on the great Mississippi River and the role it’s played throughout time. Native American tools, pottery, clothing, and other artifacts are displayed and tell the story of the natives and how they depended on the river. Fast forward and you will discover galleries filled with European settlers’ possessions. Military equipment and imported goods line the walls. There are also exhibits with models of some of the boats that sailed up and down the river. A section on the Civil War can also be found. Expect to encounter cannons, uniforms, and personal items from soldiers who fought in the war. Fire Museum of Memphis

Stop by the Fire Museum of Memphis to experience a hands-on tour of a firehouse and find out about the history of Memphis’ firefighters. Their featured attraction is the memorial wall. This 22 foot tall and 25 foot wide sculpture honors the 54 people who lost their lives fighting fires in Memphis since 1880. Another activity included is a maze where you must figure out the best escape route as if you were in a burning building. Many old, decommissioned fire trucks are also on display at the Fire Museum. A visit to the museum isn’t complete until you get to pet and play with the stations four Dalmatians. Astro, Izzy, Lottie Dot, and Ember are true firehouse dogs, with field training and everything. Riverbluff Walkway

You’ll be hard-pressed to find more spectacular views in Memphis than those encountered on Riverbluff Walkway. Surprisingly, these scenic views aren’t far from the Memphis Cook Convention Center. Remember to bring your camera when you walk this trail. You won’t want to miss out on taking pictures of the Mississippi River, Three Bridges, Memphis skyline, and more. Many grass areas and benches can be found in the park for play, relaxation, or even to have a picnic. Try and walk the entire 1.2 mile trail, so you don’t miss out on any of the breathtaking scenery. Memphis Riverboats

Get an entirely different perspective of the Mississippi River by taking a ferry ride with Memphis Riverboats. They offer three kinds of cruises: sightseeing, dinner, or lunch. The most popular of the three is the sightseeing cruise. After you and your team board the boat, you will be treated to 90 minutes of history and funny stories about Memphis and the Mississippi River by one of the knowledgeable tour guides.
