Crypto.com Arena Local Area Guide
Crypto.com Arena (formerly Staples Center) is the engine of the L.A. Live entertainment district, serving as the home court for the Lakers, Sparks, and Kings. Located in Downtown Los Angeles (DTLA), this venue is a celebrity magnet where the courtside seats are as famous as the players on the floor. The arena anchors a massive complex of hotels, theaters, and restaurants, creating a self-contained "city within a city" that buzzes 365 days a year. Visitors here must navigate the intense downtown traffic, master the specific parking lot entrances, and find the best pre-game sushi in a neighborhood packed with options. Whether you are spotting stars in the Chairman's Room or cheering from the 300 level, knowing the layout of L.A. Live is the key to a smooth Hollywood night.
Area contextNeighborhood Overview – Crypto.com Arena (Los Angeles, CA)
The arena is the centerpiece of the South Park district in Downtown LA, directly adjacent to the Los Angeles Convention Center. The immediate area, known as L.A. Live, is a polished, neon-lit corridor featuring the Grammy Museum, multiple music venues, and a dense cluster of high-end chain restaurants. To the north lies the Financial District, while to the east is the fashion and flower district, offering a grittier, more industrial vibe. Access is primarily via the I-110 and I-10 freeways, which are notoriously congested; Pico Station (serving the Metro A and E Lines) is just a block away, offering a rail alternative that skips the gridlock. The neighborhood is extremely walkable within the L.A. Live "bubble," but straying too far south or west at night can lead to less populated streets. Rideshare pickups are strictly designated at specific zones (often on Chick Hearn Court or Figueroa), so check your app carefully to avoid walking into traffic.
Lodging contextWhere to Stay Near Crypto.com Arena
The ultimate convenience is staying at the JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A. LIVE or The Ritz-Carlton, both of which share a tower directly across the street from the arena gates. These properties allow you to walk from your room to the game in under five minutes, completely bypassing the need for a car. The E-Central Downtown Los Angeles Hotel is another excellent, slightly more affordable option located just a block away on Figueroa. For a boutique experience with a rooftop pool, The Hoxton or the Downtown L.A. Proper Hotel are stylish choices just a short walk north in the South Park neighborhood. Avoid staying in Hollywood or Santa Monica if your main event is downtown; the cross-town commute can easily exceed an hour during rush hour.

Event Day Flow
Arrival & Pre-Event
Traffic in DTLA is heavy, so aim to arrive at your parking structure (West Garage or East Garage) at least 90 minutes before the event. If you aren't driving, the Metro drop-off at Pico Station puts you one block from the entrance, bypassing the car crush. Pre-game energy is concentrated in Xbox Plaza (at L.A. Live), where giant screens and outdoor bars create a festival atmosphere. Gates typically open 90 minutes prior to tip-off or puck drop; use the Star Plaza entrance to see the statues of LA legends like Magic Johnson and Wayne Gretzky before entering.
During the Event
The arena features three levels of suites stacked between the lower and upper bowls, pushing the upper deck (300 level) higher than in many other venues—bring binoculars or prepare for a steep view. The lighting is theatrical, famously darkening the crowd during Lakers games to focus attention on the court. The venue is 100% cashless, and mobile ordering is available to skip concession lines. Be aware that the "Chairman's Room" and other VIP clubs are strictly members-only, but the main concourse offers solid options like Salt & Straw ice cream.
Post-Event & Departure
Exiting onto Figueroa Street places you in a sea of people; the tunnel to the West Garage can take 45 minutes to clear if you leave exactly at the buzzer. Many fans choose to walk across the street to Tom's Watch Bar or Yard House to wait out the initial traffic surge. Rideshare surge pricing is significant immediately post-game; walking a few blocks north toward 7th Street/Metro Center can often result in a faster and cheaper pickup. If taking the Metro, the Pico Station platform gets crowded, but trains run frequently.
